Why gather in the black zone
The black zone (the Outlands) is the full-loot, lethal part of the map. It also has the densest resource nodes in the game and the highest share of enchanted nodes. In an Outlands zone, the most common resource tier is the tier of the zone itself, so a T7 zone mostly spawns T7 nodes.
Enchanted resources (.1 to .4, from T4 upward) are where most of the money comes from. One enchanted T6 or T7 node can be worth more than a full bag of flat resources from a royal zone. The price of that is risk: anyone can kill you and take everything you carry, including your mount and gear.
Black zone gathering pays well for players who plan for losses. If you go in expecting to never die, you will quit after your first gank. If you go in with gear you can lose many times over, the good runs pay for the bad ones.
Pick your zone and resource
Level one gathering line first. Reach T6 to T8 in that line in safer zones before you go to the Outlands, because you can only gather tiers you have unlocked on the Destiny Board, and spec points also add yield.
Then pick a black zone whose tier you can gather and whose biome matches your resource. Each biome has one main resource that spawns most often, plus a few secondary ones.
Hide is often the best paid resource, but you need to kill the animal before you can skin it, so it is slower and draws attention. Ore, stone, wood and fiber come from static nodes.
- Zones four or more maps away from realm gates, Rests and main travel routes are usually quieter.
- The enchanted node share differs between zones and changes over time. If a zone shows almost no enchanted nodes, move on instead of waiting.
- Check item price pages before you go: compare the raw resource in every city and decide which enchantment levels are worth the extra risk today.
| Biome | Main resource | Also found |
|---|---|---|
| Forest | Wood | Stone, hide |
| Highland | Stone | Wood, ore |
| Steppe | Hide | Ore, fiber |
| Mountain | Ore | Stone, fiber |
| Swamp | Fiber | Hide, wood |
Gatherer gear and escape kit
Your set has two jobs: more yield and a way out. The gatherer set for your resource (cap, garb and workboots) adds yield, and the bonus grows with tier. Your weapon, potions and mount are there to get you out alive.
- Weapon: a mobile one with a dash or jump, for example Dual Swords, Double Bladed Staff or Bloodletter.
- Armor slot swap: some gatherers trade the gatherer garb for an Assassin Jacket and its Ambush invisibility. You lose yield and gain an escape.
- Potions: at least two Invisibility Potions. A Gathering Potion is worth drinking only on high-value enchanted nodes.
- Food: Pork Pie, the usual gathering food.
- Cape and bag: an Undead or Fort Sterling Cape for escapes, or the gathering backpack for more carry weight.
- Mount: a fast, cheap mount you can replace, such as a Giant Stag, Moose or Swamp Salamander.
- Premium: adds +50% gathering yield and +50% gathering fame, which is a big part of black zone income.
| Full gatherer set tier | Yield bonus (cap + garb + workboots) |
|---|---|
| T4 | +10% |
| T5 | +20% |
| T6 | +30% |
| T7 | +50% |
| T8 | +70% |
A safe gathering run, step by step
- 1
Plan the exit first
Before you gather anything, find the nearest zone exit, Rest, Smuggler's Den or guild hideout on the map. Know where you will run before you need to.
- 2
Check your kit
Matching gatherer pieces, escape weapon, two Invisibility Potions, Pork Pie, a fast mount and a repaired set. Nothing in your bag you cannot afford to lose.
- 3
Sweep for enchanted nodes
Ride the zone and gather enchanted nodes first. Skip big nodes in chokepoints and nodes next to roads where groups pass.
- 4
Stay mounted when you can
Dismount only to gather and remount right after. Watch the screen edge, not the node.
- 5
Leave at the first red name
When a hostile player appears, stop gathering at once and move toward your exit. A half-gathered node is not worth your bag.
- 6
Bank early
Go to a bank when losing the current bag would really hurt, not when the bag is full.
- 7
Sell or haul
Sell at a den or Rest, use the Smuggler's Network, or haul to a royal city when prices there are better.
How to spot and escape gankers
Most deaths come from players who hunt gatherers on purpose. They usually show the same patterns, and you can see many of them before they reach you.
- A player who copies your direction, rides parallel to you or waits between you and the exit.
- Gank weapons with strong catch tools, for example Maces, Claws or Bear Paws.
- Several players riding together through a quiet zone.
- A player sitting still near a node or a portal for a long time.
Where to bank and sell
Banks in Albion are per location, so the silver and items in one bank are not available in another. Pick one or two banks near the zones you gather in and keep your loot there.
- Rests: Arthur's Rest, Merlyn's Rest and Morgana's Rest are safe towns inside the Outlands with a bank, repair and market.
- Smuggler's Dens: spread across the black zone, each with a bank, market, repair and Artifact Foundry. You can set one as your home.
- Guild hideouts: a bank and base if your guild or alliance has one in the area.
- Royal cities: haul there when the price difference is worth the trip.
| Cost | Amount |
|---|---|
| Sales tax, with Premium | 4% |
| Sales tax, without Premium | 8% |
| Setup fee for a listed sell order | 2.5% |
| Smuggler's Network transfer | 4% of the base price per map of distance |
Common mistakes
- Fighting other gatherers over a node. Nobody wins except the ganker watching you.
- Staying dismounted at depleted high-tier nodes or waiting for a T7 or T8 node to respawn.
- Filling the bag before banking.
- Wearing a set you cannot replace. Fear of losing gear makes you hesitate, and hesitation gets you caught.
- Bringing a Transport Ox into lethal zones.
- Expecting a map icon before a Resource Guardian appears. Since Dragonfire there is none.
Questions players ask
Is black zone gathering worth it in 2026?
Yes, if you plan for losses. The Outlands have the most enchanted nodes, and good runs pay for occasional deaths when your set is cheap enough to lose many times.
What tier zone should I gather in the black zone?
Pick a zone whose tier you can already gather, since the zone's own tier spawns most often there. Many players start in T6 zones and move up once they can replace a T7 or T8 set without stress.
What is the best escape build for black zone gathering?
A mobile weapon such as Dual Swords or Bloodletter, invisibility from an Assassin Jacket or potions, an Undead or Fort Sterling Cape and a fast, cheap mount. Bring at least two Invisibility Potions.
Where can I bank in the black zone?
At the three Rests (Arthur's, Merlyn's and Morgana's), at Smuggler's Dens, or in your guild hideout. Banks are per location, so keep your loot in one or two places.
How does the Smuggler's Network fee work?
You pay 4% of the base price for each map of distance between where the order is and where it is fulfilled. Three maps cost 12%, so short trades are cheap and long ones add up.
How do I avoid gankers while gathering?
Gather away from realm gates and main routes, stay mounted, and leave at the first hostile name. Watch for players who follow your direction or wait between you and the exit.
Do Resource Guardians still show on the map?
No. Since the Dragonfire update, Resource Guardians spawn in T6+ Outlands zones without an announcement or map icon.
Should I bring a Transport Ox to the black zone?
No. If you are dismounted away from the ox you are overloaded and cannot run. Use a fast mount and bank more often.
