How fishing works
You cast your rod into water, wait for a bite, then play a short reeling minigame: hold and release to keep the marker inside the safe area until the bar fills. If the marker leaves the safe area too long, the fish gets away.
Water is either freshwater (rivers and lakes) or saltwater (the coast), many zones have both, and each type has its own fish. Fish schools, the bubbling spots on the water, are where you catch fish fastest. Open water without a school is much slower.
On the Destiny Board, fishing has only two nodes: Fisherman, which unlocks rod and fisherman gear tiers, and Fishing Specialist, which adds yield, fishing speed and item power for fisherman gear.
Rods, bait and fisherman gear
Rods go from T3 (Journeyman's Fishing Rod) to T8 (Elder's Fishing Rod). A higher rod lets you catch higher-tier fish, and better quality fishes faster. Always use the highest rod you have unlocked. Avalonian Fishing Rods (T4 to T8) also exist and need Avalonian Energy to craft.
Bait makes fish bite sooner. It does not play the minigame for you. Cooks make it from Earthworms, which you get when you harvest crops on a farm plot, or you can buy it on the market.
- The fisherman set has a cap, garb, workboots and a backpack. The cap, garb and workboots each add fishing yield, and the bonus grows with tier.
- The Fisherman Workboots have Splash Wave, a dash that knocks enemies back. It is your best escape tool if you keep the boots on.
- A masterpiece rod of a lower tier can cost less than a higher-tier rod with similar item power. Compare both on the item price pages.
| Bait | Tier | Earthworms per bait | Where it pays off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Simple Fish Bait | T1 | 1 | Leveling in low zones |
| Fancy Fish Bait | T3 | 5 | T4 to T6 zones |
| Special Fish Bait | T5 | 25 | T6 zones and higher |
How to level fishing fast
- 1
Get a rod and bait
Buy the best rod you can use and a stack of Simple or Fancy bait. Cook your own if you farm and have Earthworms.
- 2
Fish schools in blue and yellow zones
Start in safe zones and fish only on schools. Low-tier fish come fast and you lose nothing if you die.
- 3
Eat fish for fame
You get Fishing fame by consuming fish. Eat low-tier fish you do not want to chop or sell.
- 4
Buy cheap fish
Buying fish on the market and eating them is a fast shortcut. Compare fame per silver between fish and cities, and look at the daily volume before you place a big buy order.
- 5
Use Learning Points and Premium
Spend Learning Points on Fisherman and Fishing Specialist. Premium gives you more Learning Points per day.
- 6
Fill a Fisherman's Journal
Carry an empty Fisherman's Journal while you fish. It fills with the fame you earn, and you can sell a full journal on the market.
- 7
Move to higher waters
Once you can use T6 and T7 rods, move to red zones, black zones or the Roads of Avalon for rare fish. Bring an escape kit, because these zones are full loot.
Turn fish into silver: chop, cook or sell
Every fish has four uses: eat it for fame, sell it whole, chop it at the Butcher into Chopped Fish, or turn Chopped Fish and Seaweed into Fish Sauce for cooking. Rare fish also go into high-value food. Which option pays most depends on today's prices, so check before you sell.
Chopping yields more Chopped Fish from higher tiers and from rare fish. The chopped fish calculator compares selling whole fish against chopping them, using recent prices from every city (they can be a few hours old).
- Basic Fish Sauce: 15 Chopped Fish + 1 Seaweed.
- Fancy Fish Sauce: 45 Chopped Fish + 3 Seaweed.
- Special Fish Sauce: 135 Chopped Fish + 9 Seaweed.
- Seaweed Salad: 10 Seaweed.
| Fish | Chopped Fish per fish |
|---|---|
| T1 common (Common Rudd, Common Herring) | 1 |
| T2 common | 2 |
| T3 common | 3 |
| T4 common | 4 |
| T5 common | 6 |
| T6 common | 8 |
| T7 common | 10 |
| T8 common (River Sturgeon, Steelscale Swordfish) | 14 |
| T3 rare | 10 |
| T5 rare | 20 |
| T7 rare | 30 |
| Shark (T8 saltwater) | 200 |
Rare fish by biome
Each freshwater biome has its own line of rare fish in T3, T5 and T7. Saltwater has one rare line for all coasts. Rare fish chop into 10, 20 or 30 Chopped Fish and are used in better food, so they are the main money catch once you fish in higher zones.
| Water | T3 | T5 | T7 |

Leyfin: the new fish from Dragonfire
The Dragonfire update (31 August 2026) added Leyfin, a rare fish you can catch only in the Ancient Lands. It comes in three tiers: Carefree Leyfin (T3), Brightsoul Leyfin (T5) and Dragonbound Leyfin (T7).
Cooks turn Leyfin into Leyfin Omelettes, a new food with cast speed, cooldown reduction and a bonus to healing casts. Because Leyfin comes from one place only, it can sell well while supply is low. Check the price before you chop it: like other rare fish, it gives 10, 20 or 30 Chopped Fish, which is usually worth much less than the omelette ingredient.
| Omelette | Ingredients |
|---|---|
| Carefree Leyfin Omelette (T3) | 1 Carefree Leyfin, 1 Goat's Milk, 1 Brightleaf Comfrey, 1 Hen Eggs |
| Brightsoul Leyfin Omelette (T5) | 1 Brightsoul Leyfin, 2 Sheep's Milk, 2 Dragon Teasel, 2 Goose Eggs |
| Dragonbound Leyfin Omelette (T7) | 1 Dragonbound Leyfin, 6 Firetouched Mullein, 6 Dragon Teasel, 6 Goose Eggs |
Fishing in dangerous zones and common mistakes
The best fish are in red zones, black zones, the Roads of Avalon and the Ancient Lands, where other players can kill you. A simple escape kit keeps most fishing trips alive: a dagger or Bloodletter, an Undead or Fort Sterling Cape, an Invisibility Potion, Pork Pie and a fast mount such as a Swamp Salamander. Keep the Fisherman Workboots on for Splash Wave.
Player reports of fishing income vary a lot by zone, tier and market, so treat any silver-per-hour number you read as a rough anecdote.
- Fishing open water instead of fish schools.
- Using Special bait in low zones, where the bait costs more than the time it saves.
- Selling Seaweed or rare fish without checking the fish sauce and food prices.
- Fishing in full-loot zones without an escape plan or with gear you cannot replace.
- Forgetting to carry a Fisherman's Journal while leveling.
