Two kinds of achievements in Albion Online
When players search for Albion Online achievements they usually mean one of two different things, and it helps to keep them apart.
- The Albion Journal is the in-game achievement system. It arrived with the Paths to Glory update on 22 July 2024. Its missions give real rewards: silver, Tomes of Insight, learning points, cosmetics, mount skins and more.
- Steam achievements are the classic list on Steam. They track your progress and show off rare feats, but they give nothing in the game.
What the Albion Journal is
The Albion Journal is a big list of missions grouped by category. Each mission asks you to do something you would do in normal play: kill certain mobs, gather an amount of a resource, sell on the market, visit places, win fights. When you finish a mission you claim its reward, and every finished mission moves the category's progress bar toward its milestone rewards.
The Journal unlocks after the tutorial. Characters that already existed when it launched got it on patch day. You open it from the game interface, and the Journal Tracker sits below the Destiny Board button. The Tracker can follow up to 3 missions at once, so you can see their progress on screen while you play.
Each category starts with a few missions and unlocks more as you complete them. You can work on categories in any order. Progress also counts retroactively: things you did before a mission unlocked still count toward it, so a veteran opens the Journal with plenty already done.
Albion Journal categories
At launch in 2024 the Journal had five categories. More were added in later updates, and Dragonfire (August 2026) added further missions and Lore Fragments. Each category is split into subcategories.
| Category | What it covers |
|---|---|
| First Steps | Starter missions for new characters |
| PvE | Killing mobs and bosses and running PvE content |
| PvP | Fights against other players |
| Gathering | Gathering resources across types and tiers |
| Economy | Crafting, refining and trading |
| Exploration | Visiting places across Albion |
| Social & Guild | Playing with others and with your guild (added after launch) |
| Islands | Island activities (added after launch) |
| Creatures | Defeating specific creatures (added after launch) |
| Character Progression | Growing your character (added after launch) |
| Lore | The story of Albion, including Lore Fragments (added after launch) |
Rewards and milestones
There are two layers of rewards. Single missions pay out small, useful items. Category milestones pay out cosmetics as your completion percentage in that category grows.
Mission rewards include silver, Tomes of Insight, non-tradable Tomes of Learning (they give learning points), dungeon maps, furniture and focus potions. The Tomes of Learning are bound to you, so they are a reason to finish missions on the character you actually want to level.
Milestones follow the same pattern in most categories:
- Each category has its own theme. The PvE rewards are built around a Direbear, Economy around a Mammoth, PvP around a Direwolf, and Exploration offers a bard outfit.
- Categories added later have their own sets. Islands includes a Transport Ox skin and a rainbow straw hat; Social & Guild includes heraldic and gold banners and an Armored Horse skin.
- The exact reward at each step can differ in newer categories, so open the category in game to see its full list.
| Category completion | Milestone reward |
|---|---|
| 20% | Avatar |
| 40% | Avatar ring |
| 60% | Wardrobe item and a vanity spell |
| 80% | Mount skin |
| 100% | Elite version of the 60% wardrobe item |
How to complete the Albion Journal efficiently
- 1
Open the Journal and claim what is done
Because progress counts retroactively, start by claiming everything you already finished. An experienced character often has a lot waiting on the first visit.
- 2
Pick the category you already play
Choose the category that matches what you do anyway. A gatherer moves through Gathering fast, a market player through Economy.
- 3
Track three missions that fit together
Put up to 3 missions in the Tracker that you can finish in the same session, such as two gathering missions in one zone and an exploration mission on the way.
- 4
Use the Destiny Board as a guide
Many missions follow Destiny Board progress. When you are leveling a weapon or gathering spec, check which Journal missions it will finish.
- 5
Mix in short missions
Exploration and First Steps missions are often quick. Doing a few when you travel adds percentage to categories without extra grinding.
- 6
Claim before you spend
Collect silver, tomes and focus potions before you plan crafting or leveling, so you do not buy something the Journal was about to give you.
Common Journal mistakes
Most players who feel stuck in the Journal are not missing a secret. They are leaving rewards unclaimed or spreading themselves over too many categories at once.
- Forgetting to claim rewards. Finished missions sit in the Journal until you collect them.
- Chasing every category at the same time. Milestones reward depth, so finishing one category to 80% gets you a mount skin sooner than reaching 40% in two.
- Ignoring the Tracker. Without tracked missions you only notice progress when you open the Journal, and you miss easy wins you pass on the road.
- Wasting Tomes of Learning on the wrong character. They cannot be traded, so use them on the character and spec you want to raise.
- Expecting Steam achievements to give items. Only the Journal pays rewards inside the game.
- Following old lists. New categories and missions keep arriving with updates, so a list from 2024 is missing a large part of today's Journal.
The Journal and the Destiny Board
The Destiny Board and the Albion Journal are separate systems. The Destiny Board is where your fame unlocks specs, items and bonuses. The Journal records what you did and pays rewards for it. Many Journal missions point at Destiny Board progress, so leveling a spec moves both at once, but finishing a Journal category does not unlock new items or specs by itself.
Steam achievements
Albion Online on Steam has 154 achievements. They work like achievements in any Steam game: they appear on your profile and give no rewards in Albion.
The most common one is "Whatever Floats Your Boat", unlocked by over half of Steam players, followed by "Cast Away", which you get in the tutorial. At the other end, a few are held by roughly one player in a thousand: "Hell is My Home" for earning 250,000 Infamy in 2v2 Hellgates, "Crystal Grandmaster" for winning a rank-7 5v5 Crystal League match, and "Quality AND Quantity" for rerolling a full stack of 999.
Other well-known goals include "Tomb Raider" for finishing 1,000 solo dungeons, "Silver Millionaire" for owning a million silver and "This. Is. Albion!" for killing 300 players.
