How the Black Market works

The Black Market is an NPC market in Caerleon, and only there. It buys gear from players and turns it into world loot. When a mob, chest or other loot source is due to drop a piece of equipment, the game takes it from the Black Market’s stock. When an item runs out, the Black Market places or raises a buy order for it. That is why it always wants gear.

Its prices follow PvE activity. More mob kills and opened chests mean more demand and higher bids. When crafters flood it with one item, the bid for that item falls. The best chances come when an item has been short for a few days and its Black Market bid has drifted above the price in the cities.

What you can sell to the Black Market

The Black Market buys equipment only: weapons, armor, off-hands, capes and bags. It does not buy resources, food or potions.

Every tier, enchantment (.0 to .4) and quality is a separate item with its own price. All three must match the order exactly, so check them before you buy. Prices can differ a lot between qualities, and a lower quality sometimes pays more than a higher one: Normal often has a higher bid than Good.

Guides report that a higher-quality item does not fill a lower-quality order on its own, but that you can sell it into that order by hand. Flippers use this to sell a cheap higher-quality copy into a better-paying lower-quality order. Test it in game with one item before you rely on it.

Tax and margin

Selling into a Black Market buy order is an instant sale. You pay sales tax, 8% without Premium or 4% with it, and no setup fee. If you bought the gear with your own buy order in a city, add the 2.5% setup fee to your cost.

Here is what a gap is worth after tax, for an item bought instantly for 100,000 silver:

  • If you bought with a buy order at 100,000, your cost is 102,500 with the setup fee, so the same 130,000 bid leaves 22,300 with Premium and 17,100 without.
  • A 10% gap barely pays without Premium. Leave a cushion, because the bid can drop before you sell.
  • For trips through red zones, aim for a much wider margin than for flips inside Caerleon. One lost load can wipe out the profit of many good runs.
  • Higher tiers give more silver per item but have less supply in the cities. Lower tiers trade in larger numbers with smaller margins per item.

Two ways to flip: inside Caerleon or by transport

A Caerleon fast-flip buys gear on the Caerleon market and sells it to the Black Market right away. You never leave the city, so there is no PvP risk. The Black Market bid only has to beat your buy price by more than the tax. This is also the most contested flip, because every flipper looks for it.

A royal city flip buys cheaper gear in Fort Sterling, Lymhurst, Bridgewatch, Martlock, Thetford or Brecilien and carries it to Caerleon. Margins are bigger and there are more chances, but you cross red zones with full-loot PvP. A slower version uses buy orders in a royal city: a better price, but the Black Market bid may have moved by the time you arrive.

How to flip to the Black Market, step by step

  1. 1

    Find the flips

Open the Black Market flips in AOScout’s Deals list and note how old each price is.

  2. 2

    Shortlist the safe margins

Keep only flips with clear profit after 4% or 8% tax and some cushion on top.

  3. 3

    Confirm in game

Check the city sell price and the Black Market buy order for the same tier, enchantment and quality. Prices on our servers can be a few hours old.

  4. 4

    Buy within your loss budget

Buy only as much as you can afford to lose on the way. Many traders carry at most about 10% of their bankroll in one load.

  5. 5

    Pick your route

Sell inside Caerleon, or plan the safest way in: an Avalonian road exit close to Caerleon, or travel with a large group.

  6. 6

    Sell right away

Sell into the Black Market order as soon as you arrive. If the bid is gone, keep the items in your bank and check again later instead of dumping them.

Getting to Caerleon with less risk

Caerleon city is safe, but it sits in the middle of red zones, and full loot applies on the way in and out. The direct paths from the royal cities are the most watched.

  • Use an Avalonian road exit no more than one map from Caerleon when you can.
  • Avoid the obvious direct routes, which gankers scout.
  • Some transporters travel with large faction groups during Bandit Assault events to lower their own risk.
  • Choose the mount for the load: a riding horse or Direwolf for light loads, a Saddled Direboar or Winter Bear for medium ones, and a Transport Ox or Direbear for heavy loads, which is slower.
  • Never carry more than you can afford to lose. A common rule is about 10% of your bankroll per trip: with 5M, carry at most about 500K.

Timing and common mistakes

Demand comes from PvE, so bids tend to be stronger when many players are online, in the evening prime time of your server, and weaker late at night. Treat this as a tendency, not a rule, and check the bid before you sell.

  • Buying the wrong quality or enchantment, so the item does not match the order.
  • Assuming the bid will still be there when you arrive.
  • Spending all your silver on one load.
  • Carrying T7 and T8 loads before you can absorb a loss.
  • Ignoring the tax when you compare prices.
  • Selling a failed flip at a loss right away, when keeping it in the bank for a few days might have let the bid recover.
  • Calling Caerleon safe: only the city itself is.

Questions players ask

How does the Black Market work in Albion Online?

It is an NPC market in Caerleon that buys gear from players and hands it out as loot from mobs and chests. When it runs out of an item, it raises its buy order for it.

Where is the Black Market in Albion?

In Caerleon only. The city is safe, but it is surrounded by red zones with full-loot PvP.

What can you sell to the Black Market in Albion?

Equipment: weapons, armor, off-hands, capes and bags. It does not buy resources, food or potions.

Is Black Market flipping still profitable in 2026?

Yes, when the bid beats your buy price by more than the tax plus a cushion. Fast-flips inside Caerleon are safe but contested; carrying gear from royal cities pays more and carries PvP risk.

Is the Black Market taxed in Albion Online?

Yes. Selling into a Black Market buy order costs 8% sales tax, or 4% with Premium. There is no setup fee on an instant sale.

Why did the Black Market price drop when I arrived?

Other flippers sold into the same order first, or the demand changed while you traveled. Bids follow how much gear the game needs for loot.

Does item quality matter on the Black Market?

Yes. Each quality is a separate item with its own bid, and a lower quality sometimes pays more. Tier, enchantment and quality must match the order.

How do I get to Caerleon safely with goods?

Use an Avalonian road exit close to Caerleon, avoid the obvious direct paths, travel with a group when you can, and never carry more than about 10% of your bankroll.
