How transport makes silver
Every city in Albion has its own market, and the same item often costs a different amount in each one. Transport means buying where an item is cheap, carrying it to a city where it sells for more, and keeping the difference. The Black Market in Caerleon is a special buyer: it places buy orders for gear that later drops from mobs and chests, so it often pays more than the city markets.
The price gap on its own is not your profit. When you sell, you pay a sales tax of 4% with Premium or 8% without. If you place an order (a buy order to get your goods cheaper, or a sell order to sell higher), you also pay a 2.5% setup fee on that order. Fast travel with goods costs extra too.
A quick example with Premium: you buy an item for 10,000 silver and it sells for 12,000 in another city. Selling instantly into a buy order gives 12,000 × 0.96 = 11,520, so you keep 1,520 per item. Listing a sell order gives 12,000 × (1 − 0.04 − 0.025) = 11,220, so you keep 1,220 but may sell for a higher price than the buy orders offer. Multiply by how many you can carry and how many the market can absorb.
Zones and risk on the road
The color of each zone decides what happens if another player catches you. Plan your route around it before you load up.
- Trips between the five royal cities can stay in blue and yellow zones, so your cargo is safe.
- Caerleon is surrounded by red zones. Every trip to the Black Market or the Caerleon market means crossing red zones.
- There is no insurance. Whatever you carry through red or black zones is lost if you die.
| Zone | What can happen to you | Risk for cargo |
|---|---|---|
| Blue | No open-world PvP | None |
| Yellow | Flagged players can knock you down for a few minutes; you keep your items | Time lost, small durability loss |
| Red | Full loot; flagged players can attack anyone | You can lose everything you carry |
| Black (Outlands) | Full loot, no flagging; only your party, guild and alliance are safe | Highest |
Transport mounts and carry weight
Your character and bag carry a small load. A transport mount multiplies it. The values below come from the game files: carry weight at normal quality and at excellent quality (higher quality adds capacity). The mount bonus only counts while you ride the mount or stand next to it.
Transport oxen were reworked in an August 2025 patch. Their carry weight went up, but low-tier oxen became slower and easier to catch. Older tables with lower ox numbers, or with a mammoth near 41,000 kg, are out of date.
| Mount | Tier | Normal quality | Excellent quality |
|---|---|---|---|
| Journeyman's Transport Ox | T3 | 1,503 kg | 1,776 kg |
| Adept's Transport Ox | T4 | 1,655 kg | 1,934 kg |
| Expert's Transport Ox | T5 | 1,901 kg | 2,204 kg |
| Master's Transport Ox | T6 | 2,237 kg | 2,577 kg |
| Grandmaster's Transport Ox | T7 | 2,667 kg | 3,058 kg |
| Elder's Transport Ox | T8 | 3,200 kg | 3,657 kg |
| Elder's Transport Mammoth | T8 | 22,521 kg | 25,735 kg |
| Saddled Direbear / Elite Winter Bear | T8 | 2,704 kg | 3,090 kg |
| Elite Bighorn Ram | T8 | 1,994 kg | 2,278 kg |
| Elite Wild Boar | T8 | 1,582 kg | 1,808 kg |
| Saddled Direboar | T7 | 1,261 kg | 1,446 kg |
| Saddled Winter Bear | T5 | 1,231 kg | 1,427 kg |
| Elder's Riding Horse | T8 | 247 kg | 283 kg |
Weight limits and how to carry more
Up to 100% load you move at normal speed. Above 100% you slow down step by step, and at 800% you cannot move at all. On a long trip, a load slightly over 100% can cost more time than a second trip.
Your bag has 48 slots, and bags only add weight capacity, not slots. Stack the same item in one slot to save room.
- Pies raise your maximum load: Chicken Pie +10%, Goose Pie +20%, Pork Pie +30%, and enchanted pies a little more.
- Gatherer backpacks in the cape slot (Miner Backpack, Lumberjack Backpack and so on) cut the weight of their raw resource by 30%, but only for resources up to the backpack's own tier. Useful when you haul ore, logs or hide to a refining city.
- A higher-tier or higher-quality bag adds capacity on top of your mount.
Your first transport trip step by step
- 1
Find a price gap
Look for an item that is cheaper in one city than in another, or than the Black Market buy orders. Check how many sell per day, not just the price. A big gap on an item nobody buys is worth nothing.
- 2
Do the math after fees
Subtract the 4% or 8% sales tax, the 2.5% setup fee if you use orders, and any travel fee. Keep the trip only if the profit per item still makes it worth the time.
- 3
Choose a safe route first
Start with royal city to royal city through blue and yellow zones. Leave Caerleon and red zones until you know the roads and can afford a loss.
- 4
Buy within your capacity
Add up the weight before you buy. Stay at or under 100% load with your mount, bag and food.
- 5
Travel
Ride along the safe road, or use the Travel Planner if its fee is lower than the time you save is worth to you.
- 6
Sell
Sell instantly into buy orders for quick silver, or list sell orders for a higher price and wait. Sell in batches if the market is thin, so you do not crash the price yourself.
Fast travel with the Travel Planner
Every royal city has a Travel Planner near the main plaza. It moves you between Royal Continent cities and islands, and between Outlands hideouts and towns. With an empty inventory the trip is free. With goods, the fee grows with the weight you carry and the distance, and non-tradable items do not count.
You cannot fast-travel with tradable items into or out of Caerleon, hideouts or Outlands towns. Goods for the Black Market have to go by road, which is exactly why those runs pay more.
How to avoid getting ganked
- In red zones a fast mount usually beats a big one. Oxen and the mammoth are slow and draw attention; they belong on safe roads or with escorts.
- Split valuable cargo into several trips. Losing one load hurts; losing all of it can end your trading.
- Travel at off-peak hours for your server, when fewer gankers are online.
- Wear cheap gear with escape tools such as an invisibility potion. Expensive gear only adds to what you can lose.
- Never carry more than about 10% of your silver in one load, so a few bad trips in a row do not wipe you out.
- Profit on risky routes is the price gap minus the expected losses. If a route looks too good, more players are probably camping it.
What to haul for profit
Gear, bags and capes carry a lot of value per kilogram, so they fit risky runs to Caerleon and the Black Market. Resources are heavy for their value and suit safe royal-to-royal trips on an ox, often combined with refining in the resource's bonus city.
Prices move every hour as players buy and sell. Check both markets right before you buy, and again before you sell. On AOScout, the Deals list shows today's city and Black Market flips with a step-by-step plan, and with Premium the transport panel shows which mount carries the load. Prices on our servers can be a few hours old, so confirm the numbers in game.
Questions players ask
How do I transport items between cities in Albion Online?
Buy the item, put it in your inventory or on your transport mount, and ride or fast-travel to the other city. Fast travel costs more the heavier your load is and is not allowed with goods into or out of Caerleon.
What is the best transport mount in Albion Online?
For safe routes, the highest transport ox you can afford; an Elder's Transport Ox carries 3,200 kg at normal quality. The Elder's Transport Mammoth carries about 22,500 kg but is slow and needs escorts.
How much can a Transport Ox carry?
At normal quality, from 1,503 kg (Journeyman's, T3) to 3,200 kg (Elder's, T8). Higher quality adds more, for example 3,657 kg for an excellent Elder's ox.
How much does a Transport Mammoth carry?
About 22,521 kg at normal quality and 25,735 kg at excellent quality, by far the most of any mount.
Can I fast-travel with items to Caerleon?
No. The Travel Planner does not allow tradable items into or out of Caerleon, hideouts or Outlands towns, so goods for the Black Market go by road.
Is hauling to the Black Market worth it?
It can be, because the Black Market often pays more for gear than city markets. You cross red zones around Caerleon, so the margin has to cover the chance of losing the load.
How do I avoid getting ganked while transporting?
Use a fast mount in red zones, split valuable loads, travel at off-peak hours and carry escape tools. Keep slow oxen on safe roads.
What should I haul for profit?
Items with a clear price gap and enough daily sales. Gear and bags give the most value per kilogram; resources suit safe routes on an ox.
